The Littlehampton Academy (TLA), part of the Woodard Academies Trust, is an improving 11-19 Academy serving the local community of Littlehampton and the surrounding area. TLA boasts excellent facilities, having moved into our state of the art new building in 2012. However, TLA is much more than just a fantastic building. We need talented staff at all levels within the Academy to ensure we can inspire, empower and accelerate outcomes for the young people we serve.

Our ethos reflects our deep commitment to delivering an outstanding education to the students we teach. We prioritise inclusion and value individuals, and excel in delivering pastoral care and personalised learning paths for our students. Our aim is to offer students not only a first-class education, but also to teach them real-life skills that will provide lifelong benefits.

TLA is a Christian designated academy and we are proud to be part of the Woodard Academies Trust. We aim to provide a rich and diverse educational environment that welcomes people of all faiths and none, and where every child is 'known and nurtured'.

We set high standards for our young people: all students are set challenging academic targets personalised to each child. We also expect our students to make us proud with their personal conduct: they are excellent ambassadors for the community and have been rightly praised for their courtesy and consideration of others. Woodard Academies Trust is an education charity formed to deliver an academy programme on behalf of Woodard Schools.  Created by founder Nathaniel Woodard in 1848, Woodard is the largest group of independent Church of England Schools in England and Wales.  Woodard Academies Trust and Woodard Schools share a common ethos of faith, unity and vision and are determined to inspire young people to make a difference.

Our Vision

Our vision is based on high expectations, inspirational leadership and increasingly personalised learning pathways, leading to improved educational achievements and enhanced opportunities as our young people prepare for, and move into, adult life. We focus on ensuring a first-class holistic education that stimulates, challenges and develops the whole person, and enables each individual student to achieve in all areas of their school life.

We ensure that our students keep pace with national and international developments, providing them with the real-life skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Alongside outstanding teaching and learning, we provide a huge range of extra-curricular activities that develop new interests and skills, celebrate all aspects of learning, and challenge young people to move out of their comfort zone. Our Staff Charter

We do …

  • support the development of staff through effective and tailored CPD
  • support staff with effective planning and delivery through the TEEP model
  • expect staff to plan collaboratively and share resources
  • insist staff follow the behaviour policy to allow for consistency that supports all staff
  • expect faculties to work as teams and take charge of their areas regarding behaviour and standards
  • plan, share & consult the calendar and meeting schedule so that its clear and fair for all staff
  • plan professional development to meet the needs of the individual as we expect our staff to do for our students
  • let staff have compassionate leave for family events
  • collect data on students twice a year
  • have staff forums where issues and solutions can be discussed
  • have an e-mail protocol to help staff manage their workload 

We do not …

  • deliver ‘one size fits all’ CPD
  • expect staff to write lengthy lesson plans
  • expect staff to plan every lesson from scratch
  • expect classroom staff to work alone on standards and behaviour
  • schedule events and meetings every night of the week
  • deliver CPD that doesn’t link with the Academy Improvement plan
  • expect staff to miss special family occasions such as their child’s Christmas nativity play, first day at school or graduation because they are working
  • collect lengthy written reports on students
  • expect staff to respond immediately to requests
